Another top four contender stumbled on Sunday afternoon in Alsace as RC Strasbourg were stunned by visiting Stade Brestois, 2-1. The Bretons won for just the second time on the road this season and more crucially lifted themselves away from the relegation zone.
After a massive win in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday evening, RC Strasbourg were back in action at La Meinau on Sunday afternoon, looking to build on their defeat of Crystal Palace by climbing the Ligue 1 McDonald's table. After his side's European exertions, manager Liam Rosenior made several changes to his eleven, including a rare start for young English winger Samuel Amo-Ameyaw.
In a free-flowing first half, Strasbourg impressed from the word go and the decision to start Amo-Ameyaw was quickly vindicated as the young Englishman struck just 11 minutes into the match. Making a lengthy run to the back post, he timed his arrival perfectly to fire home across the face of goal. The Alsatians continued to control play, and just before the half-hour, Joaquín Panichelli struck the post. The Argentine, on nine goals already this season, then had another big chance in first half stoppage time with a spectacular overhead kick, but Brest 'keeper Gregoire Coudert was equal to the task and Racing would lead 1-0 at the break.

Whatever Brest manager Éric Roy said to his side at the break, it looked to have worked, as Les Pirates came out of the traps full of energy in the second half. That ebullience soon won them a penalty, which was expertly converted by leading scorer Romain del Castillo (1-1, 54'). From there, Mike Penders had to work hard to keep out an effort on the turn by Pathé Mboup (58')
The pace of the match then dropped somewhat, with both teams displaying broken phases of play. It would then take a moment of brilliance from veteran Magnetti, who fired home a vicious effort from range that left Penders no chance in the Racing goal (82'). Racing showed more urgency after going behind, but it was in vain as they suffered their third defeat in four in the league.
