Ligue 3 Round-up: Thionville continue strong start, Caen return to winning ways

Ligue 3 Betclic continued this weekend, with promoted side Thionville Lusitanos continuing their excellent start to the campaign, whilst SM Caen, the overwhelming favourites for promotion, returned to winning ways.

Bourg-en-bresse 0-2 Thionville Lusitanos

Thionville Lusitanos have exceeded all expectations at the start of this season. Only promoted to the recently renamed Ligue 3 Betclic this season, they have a 100% record after three games and have already beaten the overwhelming favourites for promotion, Caen, in a thriller.

This was a more measured and controlled performance, but certainly no less impressive as they swept Bourg-en-Bresse aside on Thursday night. Karim Bouhmidi needed just a matter of seconds to open the scoring, and when he doubled Thionville's lead in the 34th minute, his side were cruising. Thereafter, it was a question of game management, and Thionville managed it excellently; that bodes very well for the rest of their campaign.

FC Rouen 3-0 Quevilly-Rouen

There was a Rouen derby in Ligue 3 Betclic on Thursday night and it was FC Rouen who got the better of Quevilly Rouen in front of their home fans. Malik Tchokounté opened the scoring with a first-half header. It was Lisandru Tramoni who doubled the advantage with a thunderbolt into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Always in control of this tie, it was Tramoni who added the third late on. He once again found himself with a bit of space on the edge of the box and he wrong-footed the Quevilly Rouen goalkeeper with his dragged effort to double his account and secure a memorable derby-day win for his side.

Bastia 2-3 Versailles

Corsican side Bastia were involved in a thriller on Thursday when they hosted Versailles. Jeremi Santini opened the scoring for the hosts with a flicked header in the sixth minute, but Bastia fought back, levelling the scores through Clément Rodrigues. Santini then restored Versailles' lead on the stroke of half-time. Romain Basque then gave his side some breathing room from the spot midway through the second half, but it was a tense finish to the game, as Félix Tomi halved the deficit. Versailles, however, would hold on.

Caen 1-0 Aubagne

Having lost against Thionville Lusitanos last weekend in a thriller, Caen were desperate to bounce back this weekend. However, to do so, they couldn't have left it any later. It was in the final moments that they conceded defeat last weekend, but in the dying seconds that they claimed victory this weekend.

It was Fahd El Khoumisti, the joint-top scorer in Ligue 3 Betclic this season with five goals, who scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure a win that may prove valuable come the end of the season.
