Ligue 3 MD2 Round-up

Thionville Lusitanos' excellent start to the Ligue 3 Betclic continued with a win over SM Caen. We round up the key action in France's third tier.

Thionville Lusitanos 4-3 Caen

Following on from the opening matchday, it was goals galore for Caen and Lusitanos on Friday night. Thionville netted three in their win on the opening matchday; Caen netted four, and between them, they netted seven in matchday two.

It was Karim Bouhmidi who was the hero for Thionville, netting a hat-trick, whilst Fadel Gobitaka rounded out the scoring for the newly-promoted side. For Caen, Fahd El Khoumisti, the scorer of a hat-trick last weekend, was once again on the scoresheet, but he couldn't prevent Gael Clichy's men from succumbing to their first defeat of the season. Caen remain one of the favourites for promotion this season, and so defeat to Thionville, now top of Ligue 3 Betclic, represented something of a shock result.

Aubagne 0-1 Bastia

Following defeat on Matchday 1, Bastia are now on the board thanks to a 1-0 win away to Aubagne. Former Strasbourg forward Jérémy Sebas got the only goal of the game, midway through the first half. Following their relegation from Ligue 2 BKT last season, the Corsican side, a former giant of French football, will now be looking to kick on. Versailles are next up for Bastia, who will once again play behind closed doors at the Stade de Furiani.

SC Amiens 0- 1 La Roche

To continue the trend of promoted teams thriving, La Roche-sur-Yon continued their perfect start to the campaign. The previous weekend, Mansour Samb's hat-trick against Versailles saw them scrape a 3-2 victory, and it was Samb again who proved the decider, this time against Amiens.

He netted the only goal of the game, from the spot, to continue La Roche's perfect start. Alongside Thionville, also promoted this season, they are the only team to finish Matchday 2 of Ligue 3 Betclic with a perfect record.

Cannes 1-1 Fleury 91

The same cannot be said of Cannes, although the Côte d'Azur club do remain unbeaten. They have Everton loanee George Morgan to thank for that, as he netted a late equaliser against a Fleury 91 side that, due to a mishap, were forced to wear Cannes' away shirt for the game. That was Les Dragons' first goal in Ligue 3 Betclic since securing promotion last season.

Next up for newly-promoted Cannes? La Roche. Between Cannes' unbeaten start and La Roche's 100% record, something will have to give.
