When do French clubs start their European campaigns?

Lyon will be the first of seven French clubs involved in European competition this season to get their campaign underway during the Champions League qualifiers.

With two qualification rounds to get through in order to reach the UCL League Phase and join PSG, Lens and Lille, Lyon will be the first of seven Ligue 1 McDonald's clubs to start their European campaign. They will do so in a third-round qualifier, which will take place on 4th/5th August (away) before a home game on 11th August against Sparta Prague (Czechia). 

Another club that must pass through the qualification rounds in order to reach the League Phase is AS Monaco (Europa Conference League). Les Monégasques will get underway on 20th August.

Champions League

Olympique Lyonnais

Third round first leg: Sparta Prague-OL (4th/5th August)

Third round second leg: OL-Sparta Prague (11th August)

Should OL qualify, they will face a play-off. The draw is on 3rd August.

First leg: 18th/19th August

Second leg: 25th/26th August

PSG, Lens and Lille

Draw: 27th August

Start of League Phase: 8th/9th/10th September

Europa League

Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais

Draw: 28th August

Start of League Phase: 16th/17th September

Europa Conference League

AS Monaco

Entry to League Phase solely through qualifiers

Draw: 3rd August

Play-off first leg: 20th August

Play-off second leg: 27th August
