Paris Saint-Germain finished their Ligue 1 McDonald's campaign with a defeat to city rivals Paris FC at Stade Jean Bouin, despite lifting the Ligue 1 trophy before the match.
Paris FC produced a sensational late turnaround to defeat Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in Sunday’s final-day Paris derby at the Stade Jean-Bouin. After Bradley Barcola had given PSG the lead early in the second half, Alimamy Gory struck twice for the hosts — including a dramatic winner deep into stoppage time — to hand Antoine Kombouaré’s side a memorable victory over their city rivals.
Already crowned champions before kick-off, PSG controlled possession for long periods but struggled to match the intensity and directness of a fearless Paris FC side. The hosts created the better opportunities during the first half, forcing several saves from Matvei Safonov while troubling PSG’s rotated defence throughout the evening.
The major talking point of the first half arrived after just 28 minutes when Ousmane Dembélé was forced off with an apparent injury ahead of PSG’s upcoming UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal. Gonçalo Ramos replaced the French international, who headed straight down the tunnel after his substitution.
Luis Enrique’s side eventually found their breakthrough six minutes into the second half. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia combined neatly with Fabián Ruiz before the Spaniard’s cross found Bradley Barcola unmarked at the far post for a simple finish.
PSG looked more comfortable after taking the lead, but Paris FC continued to push forward and were rewarded in the 76th minute. Following a dangerous set-piece situation, Pierre Lees-Melou’s effort was diverted into the net by Gory to level the scores and reignite the contest.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Paris FC delivered one final counterattack in stoppage time. Kebbal released Koleosho into space before the winger squared for Gory, who calmly converted to complete a stunning comeback and seal a famous derby victory for the promoted side.
Speaking after the match, Luis Enrique attempted to ease concerns surrounding Dembélé’s condition.
“I think it’s only fatigue,” the PSG coach explained. “We’ll know more tomorrow, but I don’t think it’s serious.”
