João Neves celebrates his hat trick against Toulouse FC

As we look back at Paris Saint-Germain winning their fifth straight Ligue 1 McDonald's title, we take a closer look at the matches that defined their march to top spot.

August 30: Toulouse FC 3-6 Paris Saint-Germain

Coming off a dramatically shortened summer, Paris Saint-Germain had looked in poor nick in the season's early going. They had needed a late pair of goals to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup, and with injuries abounding, they had only just edged Nantes and Angers by a 1-0 scoreline in the season's first two matches. Those early season worries evaporated into the Occitan night on this occasion though, as the visitors scored four goals inside the match's first half hour to lay down a serious marker, with João Neves netting a scarcely believable hat trick including two bicycle kicks.

November 1: Paris Saint-germain 1-0 OGC Nice

After reeling off four straight wins in the league to start the season, PSG stumbled through much of the fall. A loss to Marseille in Le Classique kicked off a run in which they had picked up just nine points from six matches. With Bayern Munich looming midweek, the capital side had to be cagy here, and started a rotated side with the likes of Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembélé on the bench. That strategy looked a poor one as the match entered stoppage time, though, with Nice standing firm and the encounter scoreless. The providential Gonçalo Ramos would pop up with a winner that allowed them to retain top spot.

February 1: RC Strasbourg 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain

Despite the recent departure of Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg have shown themselves to be a consistently dangerous side this season, and can never be taken lightly at La Meinau. With a goal by Guéla Doué, Racing had cancelled out Senny Mayulu's opener and looked to be heading for a precious point. After Achraf Hakimi was sent off with fifteen minutes to play, the result looked academic, but Nuno Mendes scored ten minutes from time for a vital three points.

February 8: Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 Olympique de Marseille

Despite sitting top of the table, Les Parisiens had still had the odd misstep in their Ligue 1 McDonald's season, and a rare loss in Le Classique was one of those occasions. Revenge was on their minds as they welcomed their rivals to the Parc des Princes and turned in their most dominant display of the season, with Dembélé leading the way with a brace and an assist, highlighted by a stunning near-post finish just before the interval.

May 13: RC Lens 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain

Goal difference meant that Lens were unlikely to pip PSG to the title, even with a win but that did little to quell a buoyant atmosphere at the Stade Bollaert. Despite 25 shots, including eight on target, Enrique's side showed their class throughout, and even if they had to rely on some timely goalkeeping by Matvey Safonov, their performance was truly worth of a title.
