Paris Saint-Germain defeated RC Lens 2-0 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Wednesday night, sealing the 2025/26 Ligue 1 McDonald's title.

A strong eleven for both sides, and Kvara breaks the deadlock

After playing a heavily rotated eleven against Stade Brestois at the weekend, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique lined up here with virtually his strongest side -- only Vitinha and Marquinhos were rested, while Nuno Mendes, Willian Pacho and Warren Zaïre-Emery joined Achraf Hakimi on the sidelines. In attack, Ousmane Dembélé (wearing the captain's armband for the first time in a league match) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia both featured from the off. As for the hosts, Pierre Sage did much the same, resting only Allan Saint-Maximin and Florian Thauvin.

The champions-elect started the match with plenty of intent, and were quickly rewarded with an effort by Dro Fernández, the young midfielder's effort range flashing just wide of the post (7'). It was Lens who nearly took the lead, though, with Adrien Thomasson's header being cleared off the line by Ilya Zabarni on 20 minutes, just minutes after Odsonne Edouard had forced a low save from Matvey Safonov (18').

It would be Kvaratskhelia, as he has done so often this season, who would break the hosts' resistance on 29 minutes, netting with a clever finish after Dembélé's chipped pass, scoring for the eighth time this season in the league. Ten minutes later, Abdallah Sima would test Safonov from range, but the Parisians would take their lead into the interval, despite Safonov being called into action once more, palming Wesley Saïd's effort from close range over the bar (45').

Mbaye seals the win with a stunner

The second half had rather fewer chances, but no less of a sense of jeopardy, with Lens pushing hard to get back on level terms. In the first minute of the second half, the PSG 'keeper was called into action again, as Sima got on to the end of a clever backheel by Edouard, only to be denied. Ten minutes later, Sima was away on the counter, but his near-post effort was again kept out, allowing PSG to preserve their slender lead.

Fifteen minutes from time, Sima again had a chance, but hit the post after putting it past Safonov. Five minutes later, Safonov had to be sharp once more, stopping Ibrahim Sangaré, before Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the match in stoppage time with a rasping shot that went in off the bar to make it 2-0. The match would end on that scoreline, as Paris Saint-Germain secured a fifth successive Ligue 1 McDonald's title and fourteenth overall.
