Stade Rennais secured a crucial victory over Angers SCO to strengthen their push for European qualification in Ligue 1. Franck Haise’s side looked in control for long spells but were forced to withstand late pressure, with goalkeeper Brice Samba emerging as the decisive figure.
Rennes imposed themselves early and were rewarded in the 12th minute when a dangerous delivery into the box forced an own goal from Marius Louër. The hosts doubled their lead shortly after through Mousa Al-Tamari, who produced a delicate lob after being perfectly picked out by Valentin Rongier.
At 2-0 inside 25 minutes, Rennes were in full control, dominating possession and territory against an Angers side struggling to play through the press. The second half brought a different dynamic. Angers gradually found their footing and were rewarded when 18-year-old Prosper Peter pulled one back on 65 minutes, finishing smartly after a well-timed run into the box. That goal set up a nervy finale.
Angers were then handed a golden opportunity to equalise when they were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute. However, Samba guessed correctly and denied Amine Sbaï, producing a match-defining save that sparked celebrations on the Rennes bench.
This result lifts Rennes provisionally into 5th place, underlining their growing momentum in the race for continental football.
For Haise, this was a performance of both control and resilience—his side showing attacking fluency early on and defensive resolve when it mattered most. Angers, meanwhile, can take encouragement from their second-half response but were ultimately punished for a slow start.
