Marseille have announced the signings of Quinten Timber from Feyenoord and Ethan Nwaneri's loan from Arsenal

Marseille today presented to journalists new-signing Quinten Timber from Feyenoord, with the 24 year-old joining Les Phocéens on a deal which will run until 30th June 2030. 

The Dutchman arrived in the South of France on Wednesday, bearing witness to the Vélodrome during their Champions League outing against Premier League side Liverpool, but said he was pleased to be joining Roberto De Zerbi's side during his unveiling press conference on Friday. 

“The club speaks for itself – they are a really great team,” said Timber at a press conference attended by Ligue1.com. “I spoke with Roberto De Zerbi and the feeling was really good. I felt the warmth of supporters at the airport – and I’m ready for the match tomorrow.”

A talent made in rotterdam 

The former Ajax youth academy player broke through at Utrecht before joining Feyenoord in 2022. Over his four years at the club. the Dutchman would make 90 appearances and scored 17 goals - even captaining the side under former manager Arne Slot. At Marseille, Timber is looking forward to playing under Roberto De Zerbi. 

"The coach has a really clear structure about how he wants to play. I grew up with than in my youth teams – it’s all I've known ,” said Timber on Marseille's style of play. He added that he is ready to be flexible for his new Ligue 1 McDonald's club "I can play wherever I am needed, as a 6, 8, or even a number 10.”

A box-to-box midfielder, Timber will be ready to face RC Lens on Sunday evening as Marseille host the league leaders in a mouth-watering top of the table clash at the Stade Vélodrome. 

Nwaneri joins from Arsenal on loan

Later in the afternoon, both Arsenal and Olympique de Marseille announced the loan move of young English striker Ethan Nwaneri to the club. After arriving on Wednesday, the 18 year-old was officially announced alongside Timber. 

The Hale End academy product first featured for Arsenal in September 2022 as the youngest player in the Premier League at 15 years and 181 days. He since made 37 appearances last season for the Gunners, but has since struggled for game time after several major signings in Mikel Arteta’s attacking department.

He joins the Olympien club on a straight loan until the end of the season, as he hopes to continue his development under Roberto De Zerbi.
