A lively first half

After dropped points on the parts of Strasbourg, Lyon and Monaco this weekend, LOSC Lille had a golden opportunity to climb back up the table at home to Paris FC. Even with captain Benjamin André suspended, Bruno Génésio lined his side up in attack-minded 4-4-2, starting both of Olivier Giroud and Hamza Igamane in attack.

It would be the visitors who take the lead, though. After a lovely bit of intricate passing, midfielder Vincent Marchetti let fly with a powerful shot from range. It caromed off the bar, but Willem Guebbels was first to react, scoring for the first time in more than two months as he slotted the rebound past Berke Ozer. Lille responded well, but it would take some doing to finally beat Kevin Trapp, who kept Les Dogues at bay with seven saves on the evening. That would fall to Giroud, who drilled home a brilliant first time finish just before the break, having benefited from a well-placed cross by Romain Perraud, leaving the match level at the break.

Giroud doubles up, but Paris push hard

After the interval, the momentum remained with the hosts, but Trapp stayed solid to keep things level. Lille would move ahead after Haakon Haraldsson was bundled over in the box, and Giroud coolly converted (77'). It was just three minutes late that they would even double their lead, after Aissa Mandi's powerful header at a corner made it 3-1 (80'). Despite conceding twice in rapid succession, the visitors kept scrapping, hoping for at least a point for their efforts.

Indeed, Paris FC had the bit between their teeth, with manager Stéphane Gilli making a raft of attacking changes in the second half. While Giroud penalty's had broken their momentum, the visitors would pull a goal back just moments later, with Lohann Doucet scoring within two minutes of coming n (84'). Four minutes later, Ozer would save well to keep his side ahead, before a penalty in added time, converted by Lille substitute Marius Broholm, would settle the match.

Lille will next host Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League, followed a trip to Le Havre in Ligue 1 next Sunday, while Paris FC, who could have climbed into the top half with a win, will take on Auxerre.
