Brest held their nerve in an end-to-end encounter to inflict Metz’s first defeat in four matches – and in doing so, took possession of the Bâton de Bourbotte, the travelling trophy that moves from club to club based on head-to-head league results.
It took just two minutes for Brest to strike, Pape Mboup slipping a finish through the legs of Matthieu Fischer. But Metz, who arrived in Brittany full of confidence after wins over Lens and Nice, reacted swiftly as Georges Tsitaishvili levelled with a composed left-footed finish.
The match remained frantic after the break. Kamory Doumbia restored Brest’s advantage with a glancing header from a set-piece, only for Mets to equalise again when Sadio Coulibaly turned a dangerous cross into his own net.
Deep into stoppage time, the decisive moment came. After a VAR review for handball, Brest were awarded a penalty. While Romain Del Castillo saw his first attempt saved brilliantly by Fischer, the winger made no mistake when the referee pointed to the spot once more minutes later, dispatching the winner into the bottom corner for 3–2.
Brest, who had gone six matches without a win, finally taste victory again — and carry the Bourbotte Baton back to Brittany.
Nantes’ difficult season threatened to worsen when a chaotic first half saw Chidozie Awaziem divert the ball into his own net following a VAR-confirmed decision.
But despite struggling to create clear openings, the Canaries rallied late. After hitting the woodwork through Abline, they eventually equalised in stoppage time when Awaziem redeemed himself, powering home a header from close range.
The point keeps Nantes above Lorient in a congested bottom half, though concerns remain for both sides’ attacking efficiency.
Angers continued their impressive form with a disciplined and clinical display at the Stadium. Yassine Belkhdim opened the scoring with a deflected strike midway through the first half, but it was goalkeeper Yahia Fofana Koffi who stole the show.
The Angers keeper produced a series of outstanding saves — including strong reactions to efforts from Emerson, Cresswell, and Edjouma — to frustrate Toulouse, who hit the bar twice but could not break through.
For Toulouse, the run of draws turns into a setback. For Angers, this marks another positive step as they move level on points with their hosts.
