Goncalo Ramos celebrates netting PSG's late winner against OGC Nice

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Goncalo Ramos is the player that PSG invariably turn to, and the one that so often delivers, just as he did once again over the weekend.

A last-minute winner at the parc

The game is deadlocked. Les Parisiens have had over three-quarters of the possession against OGC Nice, but Luis Enrique's side cannot find a way through the compact low-block. It is a familiar situation for PSG, who so often find themselves having to break down compact defences. And it is what makes Ramos such a perfect trump card.

It is the Portugal international who converted that dominance into a win. He had four chances during Saturday's cameo. Whilst he missed the first three, he kept getting into good positions, finding space where his teammates could not. And then, in the 94th minute, with the very final touch of the game, he popped up in the box, getting on the end of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's flick-on and heading past Yehvann Diouf.

Once again, Ramos lived up to his super-sub tag. The striker celebrated his 100th appearance for PSG, against Nice, on Saturday. 55 of those performances have come off the bench. In that time, he has scored 38 goals for Les Parisiens, but an incredible 18 of those goals have come when he didn't start the encounter.

"Why do I score so many goals from the bench? Well, simply because I come off the bench more than I start," joked Ramos post-match. It is not just the goals off the bench that he has a habit of scoring, but also goals late in matches. His late, late goal, in the 94th minute against Manchester City in last season's Champions League, proved crucial, as it secured a 4-2 win to allow the Ligue 1 McDonald's champions to progress to the knockout phase; we all know how that story ended.

But it isn't Ramos' only late strike. In fact, 16 of his 38 goals in the Red and Blue have come after the 80th minute. A super-sub, he is also a clutch player, as he proves time and time again.

Luis Enrique praises Ramos for milestone

Even in this season's UCL campaign, still in its infancy, Ramos has made his mark, popping up in the 90th minute to score the winner against Barcelona back at the start of October. It is a goal that ensures that PSG are well-placed to progress once again, and maybe even make the top eight this time around.

Whilst not a starter, there is no denying Ramos' importance for PSG, and it certainly isn't lost on Luis Enrique. "He is a very important player for us, because he is ready for every match, whether he starts or not," began the PSG manager on Saturday evening.

He added, "Five minutes of Goncalo on the pitch are five quality minutes. [The goal] is important for him, for the team, and congratulations to him on his 100th game." In what was a milestone game, Ramos did what he does best.
