Stade Brestois were frustrated by a resilient ten-man Olympique Lyonnais in a goalless stalemate to cap-off Ligue 1 McDonald's Matchday 11 on Sunday evening. Les Gones would have to play with ten men from 10 minutes onwards, but Les Pirates couldn't find a way to bounce back from two straight defeats with victory.
It was only the first few minutes of Ligue 1 McDonald's action for Hans Hataboer since signing for Olympique Lyonnais on an emergency 'joker' signing from Stade Rennais, but the Dutchman received his marching orders for a late and dangerous challenge on Pathé Mboup - upgraded to a red from a yellow after referee Clement Turpin consulted VAR. Yet Brest wouldn't take advantage of their extra man, as OL retreated backwards before the end of the first period. Kenny Lala provided a dangerous cross for Ludovic Ajorque whose strike was off target. Yet it was the Frenchman again who threatened again, and it was Dominik Greif who parried away to Mboup, and the Slovak saved a second time.
It was the hosts that thought they entered the lead when Pathé Mboup's curled finish sent Francis Le Blé into raptures before it was clear the attacker was offside after the OL backline had just about pushed up in time. With a man advantage, and the pressure to win after two straight losses in Ligue 1 McDonald's, it was Les Pirates who had the onus and piled the pressure during the second half.
Greif had to be on hand to deny Rémy Labeau Lascary from close range, making yet another save to keep Les Olympiens in the game with a last minute adjustment. In the 90th minute, it was the Majecki who had to be on guard to parry away from Charlie Morton's before launching one of Brest's final counter attacks. An in-swinging dangerous cross would fly past Grief's left post before Turpin's whistle ended proceedings, a moment which summed up the Breton's frustrating second period with the man advantage.
Brest have failed to win in their last 5 games in the Ligue 1, their last joint longest winless streak was from 17th May 2025 to 14th September 2025. Meanwhile, Olympique Lyonnais have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their 11 games, no team has done this more in the Ligue 1 this season.
