Mahdi Camara Scores Late-Winner to Give Brest Win Over Monaco

The contest nearly went into halftime scoreless as neither side could break the deadlock, but in the 42nd minute, the home side received help from Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Köhn.

On the end of a long ball, Ludovic Ajorque slipped between two defenders, controlled it, and fired a shot, but Köhn headed it away. Positioned centrally, Abdallah Sima followed up with a volley, and Köhn, obstructed by Thilo Kehrer, got a touch but couldn’t keep it out.

Brest went into halftime with a one-goal advantage, but Monaco responded early in the second half to level the contest one-all thanks to a penalty kick.

After a corner taken from the left, Kenny Lala nhad touched the ball with his hand, leading to a VAR review and penalty call. Coming up against Marco Bizot, captain Denis Zakaria powered his right-foot shot into the bottom left corner as the goalkeeper had gone the right way.

The contest appeared to be going to a one-all draw, but Brest had other plans. In the second half stoppage time, Éric Roy and his team scored the game-winning goal to take all three points.

From just outside the box on the left, Mahdi Camara used his right foot to curl in a floating shot. Köhn failed to react in time, and the ball found the back of the net.

After the match, Roy spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on Brest's positive result.

"We finally played a Champions League match at home (laughs). Seriously, we had a very solid first half. We always believed in it, and we knew how to dig in during the second half. In the end, it could have finished in a draw, but for me, we deserved to win. When you do coaching with quality players on the bench, you can be happy with our finishers."

Monaco remain in second place after the loss to Brest, but could fall to third place if Olympique de Marseille defeat Toulouse FC on Sunday in this tight race to finish second and third to secure the automatic Champions League spots for next season.

The Stat: 5

After their loss to Brest, Monaco have lost five of seven away matches against current Top 8 clubs in Ligue 1 McDonald's this season, with two wins.
