All the scoring in the contest came in the first half with Nantes opening the scoring in the 11th minute. Moses Simon broke through the Nice defense on the left side, taking on the defenders before playing it inside to Douglas Augusto.
Without hesitation, the Brazilian fired from outside the box and beat Marcin Bułka. Despite the away side breaking the scoreless contest early, the lead for Antoine Kombouaré and his team didn't last long.
In the 14th minute, Nice scored the equalizer as Hicham Boudaoui looked up, surged forward, and spotted Ali Abdi breaking in behind the Nantes back line. He delivered a precise pass, and the Tunisian international coolly slotted a clinical side-footed finish past Anthony Lopes.
Les Canaris ensured the two sides didn't head into halftime leveled one-all as they found the back of the net in the 38th minute. Off a corner, Matthis Abline controlled the ball, shifted it onto his left foot, and fired a low shot across the goal that left Bułka with no chance of stopping it.
After the match, Kombouaré spoke to DAZN, sharing his thoughts on his team's performance on the road and how securing three crucial points has pushed them to 30 points, putting them six points ahead of Le Havre, who have 24.
"There’s a lot of pride in what we did today. I expected to struggle, but it was good because despite the struggles, we held our ground and played like a team that wants to fight and survive.”
“Last week’s loss to Le Havre really upset me, but it’s a good thing because the players responded well. Even though it wasn’t our best performance, that doesn’t matter right now. We need to focus on winning."
After Friday's win over Nice, Nantes have won four of their last nine matches in Ligue 1 (five losses) after winning just one of its previous 16 matches in the top division (eight draws, seven losses).
