Often overshadowed by midfield partners João Neves and Vitinha, Ruiz has quietly become a key player under Luis Enrique. Simply put, when he plays, PSG does not lose. The Spanish midfielder started once again in PSG’s 6-1 victory over AS Saint-Étienne on Saturday, using the occasion to set a new Ligue 1 McDonald's record for the longest unbeaten run by a single player.
The 2024 European champion last tasted defeat nearly a year ago when PSG lost 3-1 to FC Lorient at Parc des Princes. Since then, he has played 49 matches without losing, overtaking Marquinhos’ previous record of 48 games between 2014 and 2016. Vitinha, currently on a 47-game unbeaten streak, could soon surpass the Brazilian defender’s mark as well.

Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich has a longer active unbeaten streak, with 47 games.

Consistency and Winning Mentality
While Ruiz’s current run includes just seven straight wins—far from Neymar’s Ligue 1 McDonald's record of 19 consecutive victories—his overall win percentage in the French top flight is remarkable. Since joining PSG, he has won 76.7% of his league matches, ranking him fourth all-time in Ligue 1 history, behind Abdou Diallo (80%), Pablo Sarabia (79.7%), and Ander Herrera (77.6%).
Even more impressively, Ruiz has the lowest loss percentage in Ligue 1 history (minimum 50 appearances). With just 6.8% of his matches ending in defeat, he tops the list ahead of Thiago Motta (7.2%) and Christopher Nkunku (7.3%).
