Hakimi, Gouiri headline Foé nominees

On Tuesday afternoon, RFI and France24 unveiled the nominees for the 2024-2025 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé, named in honor of the former Cameroon international who passed away in 2003. The midfielder, who played in Ligue 1 McDonald's for RC Lens and Olympique Lyonnais, was still an active player when he passed away, and the award, established in 2009, has been honored with an award for the best African player in the French top flight. After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, playing for Olympique de Marseille, won the award for the second time in his career last season, twelve players have been nominated to succeed the Gabon international.

Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi is looking to win his first Prix Marc-Vivien Foé.

HAKIMI JOINED BY Three each for Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal

While Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain right back, might be the favorite following his strong play in both domestic and European competition, he's not the only player from Morocco to be nominated for this year's shortlist, as he's joined by AS Monaco winger Eliesse Ben Seghir. With two nominees, the Atlas Lions have impressed this season, but two other countries have more nominees: Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire.

Senegal's contingent is headlined by RC Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra, as well as another Monégasque, Lamine Camara. Olympique Lyonnais defender Moussa Niakhaté completes the Lions of Teranga trio, having helped Les Gones reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League. For Les Éléphants, OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand has been joined by Angers SCO goalkeeper Yahia Fofana and Auxerre's on-loan attacker Hamed Junior Traoré.

The list is completed by a set of experienced players, including FC Nantes' Moses Simon, who is having his best season since arriving in France, Le Havre's Abdoulaye Touré and Algerian attacker Amine Gouiri, who joined Olympique de Marseille from Stade Rennais in January. The winner will be announced in May by the two media outlets.
