In February, Stade de Reims announced the signing of experienced striker Jordan Siebatcheu from Union Berlin. But it was a false re-start for the former player of Reims between 2015 and 2018, who suffered an injury in the Coupe de France against Bourgoin-Jallieu which saw him out of action until his potential return this weekend for Les Rouges et Blancs in an important clash against Lens.
Siebatcheu's initial tenure at Reims was marked by promise, culminating in 25 goals over 75 appearances. His subsequent ventures saw varied success; notably, he emerged as the top scorer for Young Boys in 2022 with 27 goals. However, his time in the Bundesliga was less prolific, managing only one assist in 18 appearances during the 2024 season.
Reims secured Siebatcheu's services with a contract extending until June 2028. Yet, his hamstring injury has seen the American-Frenchman out of action for around six weeks. It was a serious challenge for Reims, who have been fighting this season in the battle to stay up in Ligue 1 McDonald's.
The American international has however still assumed a leadership role in Samba Diawara's squad. "He brings a lot to the group," Diawara recently revealed in a press conference. "Jordy gives the younger players good advice. He cares about them, and when he speaks, he is taken seriously because his experience speaks for him."
Les Rémois face a tough trip Racing Club de Lens, reuniting once more with former manager Will Still in the opposing dugout. Currently sat in the relegation play-off spot in 16th in the Ligue 1 McDonald's table, the Champagne Region side only sit one point behind Le Havre and Angers who are sat 14th and 15th respectively in the table - a win would give Reims a massive boost. So can Jordan Siebatcheu's return come as the catalyst for a positive performance?
