OGC Nice, RC Strasbourg, and Angers SCO all earned impressive away wins in the Ligue 1 McDonald's multiplex slot. If you missed the action, here’s a full recap of what went down.
Nice are fighting to secure an automatic UEFA Champions League spot next season, so they need all three points against Le Havre. Franck Haise and his team opened the scoring in the 16th minute to take the early lead at Stade Océane.
The goal started with a perfect aerial pass to Evann Guessand, who controlled it smoothly on the right side of the box. He laid it off to Gaëtan Laborde, who scored on a one-time shot to put Nice ahead.
Le Gym wasted no time getting their second goal, with a helping hand from Le Havre, who scored an own goal in the 18th minute.
Jonathan Clauss delivered a potent cross, and Étienne Youte Kinkoue inadvertently deflected it into his own net with a tackle. Mathieu Gorgelin tried to stop it, but the ball still found the back of the net. Despite conceding two goals in two minutes, Le Havre did bounce back with a goal in the 28th minute.
On the Le Havre scoring play, Yassine Kechta found himself in the perfect spot as the ball landed at his feet at the edge of the box. With time to set up, he fired a strong left-footed shot that left Marcin Bułka with no chance.
Le Havre couldn't find the equalizing goal and Nice scored the insurance in the second half stoppage time to secure all three points.
Jeremie Boga made a great run down the left before smartly cutting the ball back, setting up Sofiane Diop to slot it home and secure Nice’s victory
Both teams were close to finishing the first half in a scoreless draw, but Angers broke the deadlock in stoppage time at Stade Auguste-Delaune, heading into the break with momentum.
Farid El Melali fired it under the crossbar with a perfectly placed free kick near the edge of the box to give Angers a 1-0 lead.
Reims had an opportunity to level the scoring in the second half after they received a penalty kick opportunity. Lilian Raolisoa brought down Mamadou Diakhon in the box, and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. VAR reviewed the play, but the decision stood.
Oumar Diakité stepped into the box to take the shot for Reims, but he sent his shot over the bar and the contest remained 1-0 in Angers' favor and the visitors would hold onto their one-goal advantage for the win.
These two squads played to a scoreless first half and it would be an RC Lens mistake that allowed for the opening goal to come in the second half at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Lens defender Deiver Machado fouled Emanuel Emegha and received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card. Strasbourg didn’t waste any time capitalizing on having one more player than the opposition.
Valentín Barco sent a brilliant pass to Dilane Bakwa, who controlled it beautifully while running, to beat Juma Bah and score with his left foot to open the scoring in the 81st minute.
Strasbourg added an insurance goal in the second half stoppage time as Emegha capitalized on Bakwa's setup to score into the empty net. He celebrated by taking off his shirt, Lionel Messi-style, and holding it up to the crowd as the visitors took home a 2-0 victory to leapfrog their opponents into seventh place.
