Recap: Fabian Ruiz's Goal Helps PSG Edge Toulouse

Ahead of their second leg UEFA Champions League knockout play-off match against Stade Brestois, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 win over Toulouse FC on Saturday night at Stadium de Toulouse.

PSG and Toulouse played to a scoreless first half, but both teams worked hard to find the opening goal. Luis Enrique’s side registered 13 total shots, while Carles Martínez Novell’s team recorded five total shots.

In the second half, the visitors broke the scoreless deadlock. Kjetil Haug saved a header from Willian Pacho off a corner kick at the near post, but the ball hit the crossbar. It then bounced right to Fabian Ruiz, who was the only one in the area to follow up for the goal and give PSG a 1-0 lead.

After Ruiz’s goal in the 52nd minute, the match remained close, with Toulouse unable to find the equalizer and PSG failing to score a second to secure breathing room.

The goal from the Spain international was all PSG needed to secure a 1-0 win over Toulouse and earn three points.

After the win, Enrique spoke to DAZN and shared his thoughts on the unbeaten run that PSG are having in Ligue 1 McDonald's this 2024-25 season.

"Staying unbeaten isn't my goal. The main objective is to win the league. That's all we're focused on."

Matvey Safonov also spoke to DAZN and shared his reaction to recording a clean and making four saves.

"It was a difficult win, but it was very important to get the three points. As for my performance, it was a quiet game with not many moments. It was tough to stay calm."

PSG will now turn their focus to Brest who they host at the Parc des Princes for the return leg in their Champions League clash. The current Ligue 1 McDonald's leaders hold a 3-0 aggregate lead over Éric Roy and his team.

The stat: 38

When Ruiz scores for his club or country, his team doesn’t lose as was the case in PSG’s win over Toulouse. He has won 38 of the 39 matches in which he scored for club and country since the start of his professional career, with one draw.
