Monaco have won its last three matches, with its marquee win coming at home in the UEFA Champions League against FC Barcelona. In Ligue 1, Adi Hütter and his team are in a three-way battle for the top spot with Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille.
While Monaco will be the favorite in the clash against Montpellier, Hütter told reporters on Thursday he is aware of the opposition's attack threats. Last weekend, Michel Der Zakarian and his team scored three second-half goals in ten minutes in their win over AJ Auxerre, their first victory of the season.
“They will be dangerous, especially with Teji Savanier, who is for me one of the best set-piece players in the championship. He knows how to be decisive, as he was last week against Auxerre."
"Akor Adams is also a good striker. We will have to be careful with the transitions. We are fully focused on Montpellier because they are a good team, but if we play at our level, we should win this match.”
This matchup will also coincide with Monaco's Centenary celebrations, marking a historic milestone in the club's history. Hütter shared details of what many supporters can expect as Les Rouge et Blanc bring familiar faces from the past.
"We are happy to have the Centenary match against Montpellier. As you can imagine, celebrating the 100th anniversary of this magnificent club is a great event. Several former players and coaches will be present for the occasion. We can be proud to be part of it. We will have to be careful to be fully focused on this match."
Montpellier will attempt to play the role of spoiler as they look to secure back-to-back wins following a slow start to their Ligue 1 season. At his press conference on Thursday, Birama Touré spoke about the squad's mindset when results weren't going their way as they look to build positive momentum.
"Despite the challenges, there were always smiles. It’s a strong group with talented players, and they know their worth. Even though the results weren’t coming, I never felt like the team doubted themselves or thought they couldn’t win. We proved that on Sunday by playing to our strengths and walking away with three points."
