Ahead of tomorrow's match against Montpellier HSC, manager Adi Hütter has AS Monaco flying. With four wins and a draw from their first five Ligue 1 McDonald's matches of the season, they are joint-top of the league table along with Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille. Coupled with a big UEFA Champions League win over FC Barcelona last week, the Principality side is off to a very strong start -- learn more about how the Austrian manager is getting the best out of his young side.
The most consistent club in the league's history with 30 podiums in addition to eight titles AS Monaco has had a start to the season in line with its great history under the leadership of the ultra-efficient Hütter.
The team has indeed won eight of its last nine matches in all competitions -- the highest total for the Monegasque club after five matches in the last 30 seasons (tied with 2013/14 and 2016/17). Another sign of the great consistency of last season's runner-up, AS Monaco has only conceded one defeat in its last 18 matches (14 wins, 3 draws).
It's, all told, a very positive assessment which, at a time when the Monaco club is celebrating its 100th anniversary, places the Austrian coach among the most successful in its history. At the head of the team from the Rock, Adi Hütter has a sparkling win rate of 60.5% in all competitions over 43 matches. This places him ahead of all his predecessors (among those who played in Ligue 1 McDonald’s).
In the entire history of the club, only Angelo Grizzetti has done better in the 1952/53 season with a 67.5% win rate, but the club was then playing in “D2”.
In the 21st century, the leader of coaches who have worked for AS Monaco remains in a good position compared to the entire Ligue 1 McDonald's. He is in the top ten (seventh), only being beaten by five Parisians (Ancelotti, Tuchel, Emery, Pochettino and Luis Enrique) and one Lyonnais (Houllier), all of whom won at least one Ligue 1 title.
For Monaco, Niko Kovac (July 2020-January 2022) ranks second with a 56.1% win rate (32/57), ahead of Leonardo Jardim, the last to have brought the league title to the club (2017), who recorded a 53.8% win rate in Ligue 1 McDonald's with 105 victories in 195 matches.
