Le Havre secure draw against Lyon

A difficult week for Lyon

Whilst Lyon got their Ligue 1 McDonald's campaign off to a winning start against Toulouse FC last weekend (0-2), they received a blow in midweek as their loss to Fenerbahce ensured that they would play no part in this season's UEFA Champions League. Instead, as a result of the defeat to the Turkish side, they will compete in the Europa League.

OL needed a win for morale, but they wouldn't get it against a dogged Le Havre side. Didier Digard's men suffered a slender loss to Monaco last weekend (0-1) and came to Lyon in search of their first point of the Ligue 1 McDonald's season.

Le Havre were particularly resolute but were also reliant on some last-ditch defending to ensure that the scores were tied at the end of the evening. Les Gones thought that they had taken the lead midway through the second half. 

Corentin Tolisso poked home after a scramble in the box, only for VAR to have found an offside in the build-up. Soon after, Mbwana Samatta opened the score for Le Havre with a header at the back post. He rose the highest to power past Dominik Greif.

Nakamura's late goal disallowed for Le Havre

It left OL with a mountain to climb if they wanted to take all three points, as they would have hoped at the start of the night. Lois Openda did level the scores in the 87th minute, but it left Paulo Fonseca's side with limited time to secure a winner. 

It was instead the Normand side who thought that they had secured a late winner. Sota Nakamura needed two bites of the apple to finish past Greif but did finish. However, a handball was spotted in the build-up and so the shares were spoiled. 

Next time out, Le Havre will host Brest, whilst Lyon will host Auxerre.
