Nonge in action with Brest in pre-season

Joseph Nonge has joined Stade Brestois on a three-year deal. Who is Les Ty-Zéfs' new No.7?

A quest for gametime

It has been a hectic start to Nonge's career. At the age of just 21, he has already been at six clubs. Beginning in his native Belgium with Anderlecht, his potential earned him a move to Juventus' renowned academy. Naturally, however, minutes weren't forthcoming for the midfielder, who made just four for the Italian giants, including just two in Serie A.

His time under contract with the Turin-based club was marked by two loan spells. The first of which was with ESTAC Troyes in Ligue 2 BKT in the 2024/25 season. Whilst he would start the campaign with the French club, he wouldn't conclude it there. He made just six league appearances before finishing the campaign with Servette in Switzerland.

A fifth club awaited the Belgium U21 international upon the end of that stint in Switzerland, and it was a new country that he would experience. At Kocaelispor, he would get the game time that he had craved (29 appearances, one goal).

But his stint in Turkiye would be brief, as it was at his four previous clubs. After just one season with Kocaelispor, he would seek pastures new, this time returning to France to join Brest on a free transfer.

In Brittany, Nonge will be looking to find a home. As Les Ty-Zéfs announced earlier this month, he has signed a three-year deal (running until 2029), with the option to extend for a further year.

"We will have a lot of fun here" - Nonge

"We'll have fun here, a lot of fun," said Nonge as he stepped out onto the turf of the Stade Francis Le-Blé for the first time. "I can't wait to see the fans," he added.

In order to ensure that his time at Brest is a long and successful one, he will have to convince Julien Lachuer that he is worthy of a place in the starting XI. Hugo Magnetti has been a consistent mainstay in that midfield for several seasons, and that looks unlikely to change under the new manager. Joris Chotard, meanwhile, will also look to continue to be a key player in this side and build on his debut campaign at the Breton club, following his move from Montpellier HSC.

In their official press release, Brest described Nonge as a "box-to-box midfielder", who is "strong in the duels", is capable of progressing the ball, and who also has a strong engine. As the 2026/27 Ligue 1 McDonald's season approaches, he will seek to showcase those abilities, and, following multiple movements in recent seasons, find stability at Brest.
