Reyna joins Strasbourg

"Royal" roots
Born in Sunderland, England—where his father Claudio was at the time playing in the Premier League— Gio Reyna came into the world with an impressive American soccer pedigree.
After his father's career concluded, Reyna joined the academy at New York City FC and proved a quick study as an attacking midfielder, impressing for his country and the MLS side's academy before joining Borussia Dortmund's academy at age 17, following the path already trodden by Christian Pulisic. Linking up with the likes of Erling Haaland and Donyell Malen, he helped lift a young Dortmund side to a DFB-Pokal title and a place in the 2024 Champions League final, but began to lose his opportunities owing to injuries and competition for places.

A fresh start in France
After an ill-fated loan spell with Nottingham Forest, Reyna joined another Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach on a permanent deal last summer, but continued to struggle with fitness. Despite only playing some 500 minutes last season, his talent remained manifest, and he was called up to this summer's World Cup squad by the hosts, impressing in his cameo appearances.
With 43 international caps despite being just 23, Reyna's talent is manifest, and he'll now look to put it to good use in a revamped Strasbourg side who will look to follow up their fairytale run to the semifinals of the Conference League by impressing domestically.
