England secured top spot in Group L with victory over Panama, while Croatia edged Ghana to finish second. Despite defeat, the Black Stars also progressed to the World Cup knockout stages thanks to their third-place finish.

England finished top of Group L after a 2-0 victory over Panama, while Croatia claimed second place with a dramatic 2-1 win over Ghana. Despite defeat, the Black Stars also booked their place in the knockout stages as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams.

The Three Lions struggled to break down a disciplined Panama side in New York, dominating possession without creating many clear-cut chances before finally making the breakthrough just after the hour mark. Bukayo Saka's corner was met by Jude Bellingham, who darted to the near post to turn home England's opener in the 62nd minute.

Five minutes later, Bellingham was involved again, this time providing the cross for captain Harry Kane to power home a close-range header and put Thomas Tuchel's side firmly in control. The victory ensured England finished top of the group with seven points and an unbeaten record.

Croatia, meanwhile, secured second place after overcoming Ghana in Philadelphia. Zlatko Dalić's side struck first through Petar Sučić, whose superb strike from outside the area gave the Vatreni a deserved first-half lead.

Ghana responded impressively after the break and levelled with just over 15 minutes remaining. Olympique Lyonnais winger Ernest Nuamah delivered an excellent set-piece that was converted by Derrick Luckassen, briefly lifting the Black Stars above Croatia in the live standings.

Several Ligue 1 McDonald's players featured for Ghana, with AJ Auxerre duo Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu starting alongside Marvin Senaya, while OGC Nice defender Kojo Peprah Oppong and Nuamah came off the bench to influence the contest.

Croatia responded in decisive fashion. Luka Modrić's corner found Nikola Vlašić unmarked at the back post, and the Torino midfielder headed beyond Benjamin Asare seven minutes from time to restore Croatia's advantage and seal qualification.

The result sends Croatia into the last 32 as runners-up behind England, while Ghana's four-point haul proved enough to also keep their World Cup dream alive.
