France face Norway hoping to clinch top spot ahead of the knockout phase of the FIFA 2026 World Cup

France have enjoyed an impressive start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, following a 3-1 victory over Senegal with a convincing 3-0 success against Iraq. Didier Deschamps' side sit top of Group I on goal difference ahead of Norway, with both nations having collected six points from their opening two matches.

Les Bleus have been spearheaded by Kylian Mbappé, who has already scored four goals in the tournament, while Bradley Barcola found the net against Senegal before Désiré Doué was handed his first start against Iraq. Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembélé and Bayern Munich's Michael Olise also provide France with one of the competition's most dangerous attacking units.

Ligue 1 talent on both sides

Norway have secured qualification after victories over Iraq (4-1) and Senegal (3-2), with Erling Haaland matching Mbappé on four goals. The Scandinavians know only a victory will see them leapfrog France into first place.

For France, Deschamps could make several changes despite the importance of the fixture. Manu Koné impressed from the bench against Iraq, while Lucas Digne also staked his claim for a starting place. Barcola and Doué will both hope to retain their places as competition for attacking roles intensifies ahead of the knockout rounds.

At the back, Jules Koundé, Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba are expected to provide the foundation for a side that has conceded just once in two matches.

France have not won all three group-stage matches at a World Cup since their triumphant 1998 campaign, and another victory would maintain their momentum heading into the last 16. Norway, meanwhile, will be aiming to spring a surprise and secure top spot with what would be only their fourth-ever victory over Les Bleus.
