OGC Nice academy product Kail Boudache signed his first professional contract earlier this month, but not at his formative club. The exciting attacking talent has instead signed for Olympique Lyonnais.
Lyon have got some of their summer business done early. As well as the arrival of Boudache on a free transfer, Les Gones have also wrapped up the signing of Noham Kamara. The young defender spent the second half of last season on loan at OL from PSG and his move has now been made permanent.
Lyon are famed for their development of young talent, but they also now have an eye on players coming through at other clubs around France.
Boudache made his breakthrough at Nice earlier this season. Unused by Franck Haise, the winger, who turned 20 earlier this month, was given his chance by Claude Puel. He was the major benefactor of the mid-season managerial change at the Allianz Riviera.
In the back end of the season, the Algeria youth international would go on to make 19 appearances. And he would score some crucial goals: one in the Coupe de France comeback win against Montpellier, one against Lorient in a 3-3 draw, and another in the crucial Ligue 1 McDonald's promotion/ relegation play-off against AS Saint-Étienne.

It was his goal against Les Verts that, in part, allowed Nice to remain in France's top-flight for next season. As it transpires, it was a parting gift from Boudache, who will now continue his development at the Groupama Stadium.
As noted, his breakthrough was facilitated by the mid-season managerial change. Puel, who has previously worked within youth set-ups, is known for giving game time to youth players. But it was also the introduction of Julien Sablé into the first-team set-up as an assistant that played a part.
He already knew Boudache well, having worked with him in the academy. Sablé describes the winger as having "a completely atypical profile". Sablé added, "He exudes a type of nonchalance whilst having very good athletic capabilities for a player of his size [...] you have to push him because training has never been his favourite thing coming through the academy. He is determined. He knows what he wants."
Sablé added that clubs had sought to buy him back in January, however, Boudache wished to remain with his formative club. But now, having ensured that Nice will play their football in Ligue 1 McDonald's next season, he has taken his leave.
Upon signing a five-year deal with OL he said the following: "I am very happy to announce that I have signed my first professional contract with Olympique Lyonnais. I am proud to join this great institution and wear its colours. It is a moment of pride for my family and me. Now, time to get down to work."
