PSG's Neves was on target as Portugal drew against DR Congo

FIFA World Cup action continued on Wednesday with the likes of Portugal, England, and Austria involved. We look at the action.

Austria 3-1 Jordan

Following Argentina's win earlier in the day, Austria ensured that they remained hot on the heels of the reigning World Champions. However, for a long time, they were frustrated by Jordan, who would ultimately falter following the second-half hydration break.

Romano Schmid opened the scoring for Ralf Rangnick's side early in the first half. There were no Ligue 1 McDonald's players involved for the European side, but for Jordan, Rennes forward Moussa Al-Taamari was involved. His side fought back early in the second half with Ali Olwan levelling the scores.

It was a Jordanian player on the scoresheet once again later in the half, but it was Yazan Al-Arab who put it into his own net before Marko Arnautovic then rounded out the scoring from the spot deep into second-half injury-time.

Portugal 1-1 DR Congo

Major European nations have been held in this summer's tournament. Earlier this week, Belgium were held by Egypt and this time, it was Portugal on the receiving end this time. This was a game more rich in Ligue 1 McDonald's involvement. PSG's Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, and Vitintha were all included in the starting line-up.

And it was the diminutive Neves who netted the opener and, once again, despite his stature, with his head. However, once the diminutive Parisien, nonetheless known for his box presence, got Portugal ahead, DR Congo fought their way back.

Former Angers, Laval, Ajaccio, and Lorient forward Yoane Wissa half-timelevelled the score. From a short corner on the stroke of half-time, the ball was worked onto the head of the unmarked Wissa, who headed home.

Portugal couldn't muster a significant response, as a DR Congo defence, which included Lille's Chancel Mbemba, held firm. As a result, DR Congo held firm, bolstering their chances of progression from the group.

England 4-2 Croatia

England versus Croatia was a repeat of the the 2018 World Cup final. It was Harry Kane who made the difference in the first half, netting the opener from the spot before putting the Three Lions back ahead after Martin Baturina had drawn the Croats level with an excellent strike.

The sides had gone in level at 2-2, burt upon the resumption of the game, England pulled away. Jude Bellingham put Thomas Tuchel's side back ahead following a run down the right. And the former PSG manager saw his side secure victory thought Marcus Rashford, who cut inside before curling into the far corner.
