After guiding FC Lorient back to Ligue 1, the former Merlus star has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Bournemouth and is now attracting interest from Europe’s elite clubs.

At just 19 years old, Éli Junior Kroupi is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting French attacking talents in Europe. The former FC Lorient academy graduate has enjoyed a remarkable first season in the Premier League with Bournemouth, scoring 13 goals in 33 appearances and helping Andoni Iraola’s side exceed expectations following a summer of significant change.

Kroupi’s emergence on the south coast has come as little surprise to those who followed his development in France. Born in Lorient and the son of former FC Lorient, AS Nancy Lorraine and Stade Rennais forward Eli Kroupi, football has always been part of his DNA. Having joined Lorient’s academy at the age of six, he quickly established himself as one of the club’s brightest prospects and signed his first professional contract at just 15 years old.

His rise through the ranks was rapid. In 2023, Kroupi became the youngest player in FC Lorient history to make his first-team debut before breaking another club record by becoming their youngest-ever goalscorer in Ligue 1. Despite Lorient’s relegation at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, the teenager finished the season with five goals and three assists in France’s top flight.

Ligue 2 top scorer, Premier League hit-man

Rather than allowing the setback to slow his progress, Kroupi took another major step forward in Ligue 2. During the 2024-25 season, he spearheaded Lorient’s immediate return to Ligue 1 McDonald's, scoring 22 goals as the Merlus secured the league title. His performances earned him the Ligue 2 Player of the Season award and confirmed his status as one of the most sought-after young forwards in Europe.

Bournemouth moved quickly to secure his signature, signing the France youth international in a deal reportedly worth around €13 million. The transfer also reflected the growing links between Bournemouth and Lorient through Bill Foley’s Black Knight Football group.

The adaptation to English football has been seamless. Comfortable as a central striker, second forward or wide attacker, Kroupi has impressed with his movement, intelligence and composure in front of goal. His recent scoring streak has underlined why he is regarded as one of Europe’s premier young attacking talents.

His performances have not gone unnoticed. According to reports from L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs monitoring the Frenchman ahead of the summer transfer window. While Bournemouth remain determined to retain one of their prized assets, interest from the UEFA Champions League winners highlights just how far Kroupi has come in a short space of time.
