A heavily rotated Paris Saint-Germain side were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by FC Lorient at the Parc des Princes on Saturday afternoon, potentially reopening the Ligue 1 title race ahead of a decisive evening for RC Lens.
Just four days before their UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against FC Bayern Munich, Luis Enrique opted to rest several key starters, but PSG failed to secure all three points despite twice taking the lead.
Teenager Ibrahim Mbaye opened the scoring after just five minutes in fortunate circumstances. Désiré Doué’s dangerous delivery caused confusion in the Lorient box before Yvon Mvogo’s clearance ricocheted off Mbaye and into the net.
However, Lorient responded almost immediately through Pablo Pagis. The visitors caught PSG sleeping from a quickly taken throw-in and Pagis volleyed emphatically beyond debutant goalkeeper Renato Marin to make it 1-1.
PSG dominated possession but lacked control and efficiency throughout the first half. Doué produced flashes of brilliance, notably weaving through several Lorient defenders before narrowly missing the target, while Lucas Hernandez struck the crossbar from a corner.
Mvogo also produced important saves to deny Lee Kang-in and Senny Mayulu as Lorient continued to threaten on transitions.
Luis Enrique reacted just after the hour mark by introducing João Neves and Warren Zaïre-Emery, and the changes immediately transformed the hosts.
Within two minutes of coming on, Zaïre-Emery restored PSG’s lead. Doué combined neatly on the left before finding the midfielder centrally, and the Paris captain-for-the-day drilled a low finish through traffic and beyond Mvogo.
At that stage PSG appeared in control, but Lorient punished another defensive lapse late on. Young substitute Pierre Mounguengue lost possession cheaply, allowing Tosin to race clear. The Lorient forward outpaced Willian Pacho, rounded Marin and finished via the post to level the match once again with 12 minutes remaining.
PSG pushed desperately for a winner in the closing stages. Hernandez hit the post from another set-piece situation, while Mayulu also rattled the woodwork from a tight angle after João Neves’ free-kick was partially cleared.
There was late controversy in stoppage time when referee Jérémie Pignard initially awarded PSG a penalty for a suspected handball by Laurent Abergel’s replacement Cadiou. However, following a VAR review, the decision was overturned.
The result leaves PSG still on course for the Ligue 1 title, but their advantage could now be cut to four points if Lens win later this evening.
For Lorient, the performance continues an impressive recent record against the Parisian club. The Merlus are now unbeaten in both league meetings against PSG this season after also drawing 1-1 earlier in the campaign at the Stade du Moustoir.
Pablo Pagis has been involved in a goal in seven of his last eight Ligue 1 games (four goals, three assists). He now has 10 goals in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season, only Terem Moffi (14 in 2020-21 and 12 in 2022-23) has scored more in a single top-flight campaign for Lorient over the last five seasons.
