A few days after having squared off in the Coupe de France, Olympique de Marseille and Toulouse FC met again in Ligue 1 McDonald's, with Les Olympiens eager for a measure of revenge. Get the latest from the Stade de Toulouse with our match report.
Just three days after the two sides played out an epic two-all draw in the Coupe de France quarterfinals, with Toulouse advancing on penalties, the two sides met again, and each manager made a few changes. The hosts were without Charlie Cresswell, with Warren Kamanzi taking his place in defence and for OM with Amine Gouiri still only fit enough for the bench, Habib Beye lined his side up in a 3-4-1-2, with Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the attack.
The Stade was sold out as the fans of Les Violets hoped for another win, but it was OM who started the brighter, controlling the ball from the off in what was a very chippy start to the match, even as Toulouse threatened from set pieces. Then, on eighteen minutes, Marseille had the opener in a flash. Facundo Medina played a long ball up to Igor Paixão, who played a brilliant cutback to Greenwood, who unleashed an unstoppable shot past Guillaume Restes. The goal, Greenwood's 15th of the season in Ligue 1 McDonald's, makes him the division's top scorer. The hosts would manage to fashion a couple half chances just before the interval, but Marseille's domination was comprehensive, even if they failed to really trouble Restes further.

Into the second half, Toulouse were far the better side, with the introduction of Santiago Hidalgo at the break. A good spell of pressure nearly told for Yann Gboho, but the winger could only hit the bar on 52 minutes. The next chance would also come for the hosts, with Pape Demba Diop forcing a diving save from range (68'). Rulli would have to work again four minutes from time as he needed to get down quickly to keep out an effort from Julián Vignolo, but the match would come to and end with l'OM securing a much-needed three points.
With the win, Marseille have now regained third place ahead of Lyon's home match against Paris FC tomorrow, and will further have a chance to put pressure on Les Gones as they next play Friday against Auxerre. As for Toulouse, while they'll look forward to continuing their Coupe campaign, this result leaves them nine points off fifth place, and likely unable to claw back that deficit even with an amenable trip to bottom side Metz to come.
