No player has registered more assists in Ligue 1 McDonald's this season than Brest's Ludovic Ajorque, who has excelled since making his return to France's top-flight.
The SCO Angers academy product isn't always prolific but he is always valuable for his side. His large frame has made him a focal point for Brest this season, as it did at Strasbourg before that. He is a player who brings others into play and that has reflected in his statistics this season. Ordinarily, you would expect to see a playmaker at the top of the assist charts, but it is Ajorque who sits atop the standings with eight assists so far in Ligue 1 McDonald's this season. He is a playmaker of sorts, you could argue, just not in the more traditional sense.

What a striker. Ludovic Ajorque. ❤️‍🔥 pic.twitter.com/J9JQ4I2dXa— Ligue 1 English (@Ligue1_ENG) February 20, 2026
It is those characteristics that made him so valuable over a five-year stint with Le Racing. In 151 games, he scored 51 goals and registered 19 assists. He was a pillar of that pre-BlueCo Strasbourg side, who invariably saw themselves toiling towards the bottom of the league. In those years, he would be crucial. He hit double figures in terms of goals in both of his final two seasons at the Meinau. Netting 16 in the 2020/21 campaign and then a further 12 the year later, in what would ultimately be his final season at the club, before a move to Germany.
However, making the hop over the border, he could not replicate his form in the Bundesliga, and would score only nine goals in 46 appearances for Mainz. But that did not dissuade Eric Roy from wanting to bring him back into Ligue 1 McDonald's.
"I know 'Ludo'. I really fought to bring him here. At the two clubs that I was at before [being at Brest], I wanted to sign him but it didn't happen," he said on Friday night. That came after one of Ajorque's best performances in recent times, as the Réunionnais striker's first-half brace secured a memorable win over Marseille.

"He thinks more about the collective", added Roy on Ajorque, who added that, for him, "an assist is worth a goal". Eight of his 14 assists since joining Brest back in 2024 have come this season, a sign of his growing importance. The striker celebrates his 32nd birthday on Wednesday, and he falls into the category of players who age like a fine wine. Stylistically and in terms of his importance to the team, his ability to make others shine, there are similarities to be drawn to compatriot Olivier Giroud, who did that over so many years at club level, and particularly for the France national team.
With 14 goal contributions already this season in Ligue 1 McDonald's, he has kept the Breton club clear of relegation trouble and, perhaps, if he continues on his merry way, he may put Brest in the European conversation.
