Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco meet in the second-leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off on Wednesday night, with the latter looking to overturn a 3-2 deficit. Ahead of that game, we look at players who have played for both of the Ligue 1 McDonald's giants.

Kehrer returns to the Parc

Historically, there are some iconic players who have played for both Ligue 1 McDonald's clubs, but will be one player at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday who plays for Monaco, but who once played for PSG.

Thilo Kehrer joined PSG as a youngster, and despite making 128 appearances for the club between 2018 and 2021, he failed to ever truly establish himself as the No.1 choice under successive managers. He departed for West Ham before returning to France's top-flight and to Monaco, initially on loan, back in January 2023. At the Stade Louis II, he is a regular. He has made 86 appearances and has frequently worn the armband for the Principality club. Having missed the first-leg through illness, he will look to have a positive impact in the second.

Bar Kehrer, the most recent player to have featured for both clubs, is Kylian Mbappé, now at Real Madrid, whom Monaco faced earlier in their UCL campaign. He had great success at both clubs. In his one full season with Les Monégasques, Mbappé won the Ligue 1 McDonald's title in 2017. But his explosion onto the scene (25 goals in 56 appearances for Monaco) quickly caught the attention of Les Parisiens, who signed the now-France captain for a huge fee, following a loan. None of the players to have played for both clubs scored more goal for PSG than Mbappé. In 308 games, he netted 256 goals. None of the players on the list made more appearances than Mbappé, either.

He left at the same time as Layvin Kurzawa, who, at the time of his departure from the Parc, had fallen out of favour. But he nonetheless made 151 appearances for PSG over an eight-year spell, which was preceded by five years in the Principality, during which he made 84 appearances.

Weah stints short but sweet

The player to have made the most appearances for Monaco on this list is Ludovic Giuly, who made 240 appearances for the Principality club, as well as 107 for PSG. He is a veritable legend at Monaco, where he still regularly attends games. He was instrumental in that run to the UCL final back in 2004.

Marco Simone, still in the Principality and now managing a women's side called Monaco United FC, also earned legend status at the Principality club, netting 39 goals in 87 games, whilst he was equally prolific at PSG, where he netted 25 in 63.

Whilst he didn't stay at either club for long, George Weah had an excellent goals-per-minute ratio for both clubs, netting once every 130 minutes (three goals in five games) for Monaco and once every 111 minutes (14 goals in 19 games) for PSG.
