Several Ligue 1 McDonald's sides booked their place in the Coupe de France last 16 on Sunday, with convincing wins, hard-fought qualifications and one major upset. Montpellier were ruthless against Metz, Nice edged past Nantes on penalties, Rennes recovered from an early scare, while Lyon produced an impressive away victory in Lille.

Montpellier ruthless at Metz

Despite playing in Ligue 2, Montpellier HSC delivered a dominant performance to eliminate FC Metz (0-4) at Stade Saint-Symphorien.
Téji Savanier opened the scoring from the penalty spot inside seven minutes, before Yanis Issoufou doubled the lead shortly after. Enzo Tchato struck early in the second half to end any hope of a comeback, and Nicolas Pays completed the rout just after the hour mark. Metz’s Coupe de France exit adds further pressure as they continue to struggle in Ligue 1.

Nice edge Nantes on penalties

At La Beaujoire, OGC Nice progressed after a tense penalty shootout victory over FC Nantes (1-1, 5-3 on penalties).
Sofiane Diop gave Nice the lead midway through the first half, but Nantes responded after the break through Herba Guirassy. With neither side able to find a winner in normal time, former Nantes goalkeeper Maxime Dupé proved decisive in the shootout, making the only save of the session.

Rennes recover after Chantilly scare

Stade Rennais were forced to work hard before overcoming National 2 side Chantilly (1-3).
Evens Joseph put the hosts ahead shortly before half-time, but the match swung following the dismissal of Sambou Yatabaré. Quentin Merlin levelled from a free-kick, before Moussa Al-Tamari and Elias Legendre Quinonez struck in quick succession to secure Rennes’ place in the next round.

Endrick sends Lyon through at Lille

In the standout tie of the round, Olympique Lyonnais claimed a notable away win against LOSC Lille (1-2). Afonso Moreira opened the scoring inside the first minute, before Nathan Ngoy equalised for Lille. On his first start, Endrick marked his debut with the decisive goal just before half-time, firing Lyon into the last 16 and extending their winning run across all competitions.
