We celebrate the birthday of one of the modern icons of Ligue 1 McDonald's in recent years

Few players have shaped Ligue 1 McDonald's in the modern era as decisively as Kylian Mbappé. As the France captain celebrates his 27th birthday, his impact on the championship can be measured not just in trophies and memories, but in numbers that place him in a category of his own.

Mbappé’s Ligue 1 story began with AS Monaco during the 2016/17 season. Still only 18, he scored 15 league goals as Leonardo Jardim’s side stormed to an unexpected title, breaking Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance and announcing the arrival of a generational talent. His blend of pace, composure and decisiveness immediately set him apart, and Europe quickly took notice.

From the principality to Paris

His move to Paris Saint-Germain later that year marked a turning point for both player and league. Over the following seasons, Mbappé became Ligue 1’s attacking reference point, the player every defence prepared for and rarely stopped. He evolved from explosive wide forward into a complete attacking leader, capable of deciding matches in transition, in tight spaces, or through sheer individual brilliance.

Across his Ligue 1 career with Monaco and PSG, Mbappé has made 246 league appearances, scoring 191 goals and providing 74 assists. He has finished as the division’s top scorer on six occasions, underlining a level of consistency unmatched in the 21st century. By his mid-twenties, he had already become the most prolific Ligue 1 scorer of the modern era.

At Paris Saint-Germain, his numbers reached historic proportions. In all competitions for the capital club, Mbappé recorded 256 goals and over 100 assists in just over 300 appearances, becoming PSG’s all-time leading scorer. During that spell, he won six Ligue 1 titles, alongside multiple Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophée des Champions successes, often as the side’s decisive figure in domestic competition.

A sparkling career with Les Bleus

Mbappé’s dominance in Ligue 1 also carried onto the international stage. With France, he has scored 46 goals in 77 caps to date, winning the World Cup in 2018 and leaving a permanent mark on the competition with 12 World Cup goals, including a hat-trick in the 2022 final.

As he turns 27, Kylian Mbappé’s place in Ligue 1 history is already secure. Few players have dominated the championship so early, so completely, and for so long. The numbers tell one story; the influence, another. Together, they define a modern Ligue 1 icon.

Happy Birthday, Kylian Mbappé. 🎂⚽
