Martial Godo continued his fine run of form in Europe, scoring the second in Racing's 3-1 win

RC Strasbourg continued their unbeaten run in the Conference League, topping the league phase with 16 points after a 3-1 win over Icelandic side Breidablik at La Meinau. Catch up on all the action from Alsace with our match report.

Early dominance pays off

In need of a win this weekend in Ligue 1 McDonald's and without AFCON absentees Guéla Doué and Mamadou Sarr, RC Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior left several key players on the bench for this evening's visit from Icelandic side Breiðablik, including Ismaël Doukouré, Valentín Barco and Diego Moreira. Despite this, the hosts started the better, and Joaquín Panichelli had the match's first chance with six minutes on the clock, but his tame header was saved by the visiting 'keeper.

Five minutes later, Sebastian Nanasi had much better luck, finishing off a well-worked team move by slotting Ben Chilwell's cross home for an early lead (11'). Strasbourg continued to press, and earned a series  of corners, but were unable to double their lead. Indeed, with just eight minutes to go before the break, with the Icelandic side having grown into the match, Hoskuldur Gunnlaugsson took advantage of a mix-up at the back to level the game, a score that would stay the same until the interval.

Godo and Enciso strike to seal the result

Seconds after the restart, Martial Godo thought he had given his side the lead, but the offside flag was up against the winger, a decision confirmed by VAR. From there, Godo and Samuel Amo-Ameyaw both had shooting chances, but neither was unable to make the hosts' dominance pay. Midway through the half, Chilwell, after a superb ball from substitute Moreira, scuffed a chance with the goal at his mercy (68').

Godo, though, would save the Englishman's blushes, firing home from a wide angle after a clever shift of play from Julio Enciso (80'). In the early stages of added time, the visitors would hit the bar, but Enciso would seal the match by going from provider to finisher in the 94th minute, as the Paraguay international tapped in at the back post from Nanasi's low cross. With the result, Racing finished the league phase top of the table, with five wins and a draw, and will return to the competition in the Round of 16 in early March. Before that, though, they'll close out 2025 with a home match against USL Dunkerque on Sunday in the Coupe de France.

The stat: 6

Martial Godo now has six goal involvements in the Conference League -- three assists and three goals. No player in the competition has more.
