Odsonne Edouard netted a brace as RC Lens beat OGC Nice to retake top spot

The Matchday 16 Multiplex in Ligue 1 McDonald's was a thrilling one, with Lens going top and Lille beating Auxerre in a match that saw seven goals and four red cards. Catch up on the action from across France with our roundup.

RC Lens 2-0 OGC Nice

Needing to follow up a win by Paris Saint-Germain yesterday with one of their own to reclaim top spot in the table ahead of the winter break, RC Lens picked up a composed 2-0 home victory over OGC Nice. Odsonne Edouard gave the hosts an early lead with a fine header across goal (15') before Lens 'keeper Robin Risser was kept busy with efforts by Hicham Boudaoui (37') and Isak Jansson (48') either side of the break. Undaunted, Edouard found the net again just before the hour (57'), turning home a teasing cross by Matthieu Udol. With the result, Lens finish 2025 with six straight wins in the league, and 37 points from 16 matches.

AJ Auxerre 3-4 LOSC Lille

Lille kept pace with the top two in the race for a Champions League spot, but their win away to Auxerre was hard-fought. Hakon Haraldsson opened the scoring for Les Dogues early doors (10'), but with defender Nathan Ngoy sent off before the break (38'), Lille looked to have a long evening ahead of themselves. Indeed, Auxerre, fighting against the drop, would take the lead with a Lassine Sinayoko penalty (57') and a Chancel Mbemba own goal (66') but not before Clement Akpa was sent off as well (63').

Lille would have their own quickfire double with first Nabil Bentaleb (77') and then teenager Soriba Diaoune (80') finding the net. Just three minutes later, the match was level again, though as Sinayoko converted a penalty to make it three-all with six minutes to play. Not to be outdone, Lille would score the match's final goal through captain Benjamin André, the veteran heading home Romain Perraud's cross to allow his side to move to a provisional third place.

RC Strasbourg 0-0 FC Lorient

After rotating his lineup following a 1-0 away to Aberdeen in the UEFA Conference League, Liam Rosenior was unable to lead his side to victory in his team's final home match of the Ligue 1 McDonald's season. Despite the reintroductions of Diego Moreira, Joaquín Panichelli and Valentín Barco, chances were far and few between in this gritty encounter. Yvon Mvogo did well to tip a bullet header from Ismaël Doukouré over the bar (20') and Mike Penders kept out a rasping effort from Laurent Abergel on the half hour (30'), but the two 'keepers made just three saves between them.
