Paris Saint-Germain snatched a dramatic 3–2 victory away to Lyon on Sunday night thanks to a last-gasp header from João Neves, allowing Luis Enrique’s side to reclaim top spot in Ligue 1.
PSG had fallen behind OM and Lens earlier in the weekend and came into the game under pressure to respond, but they were pushed all the way by a brave Lyon side who refused to fold.
After a cautious start in front of a sell-out crowd of 58,000 at the Groupama Stadium, the game burst into life midway through the first half. Warren Zaïre-Emery broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, punishing a defensive mix-up between Tagliafico and Niakhaté to blast PSG ahead. Lyon, however, responded almost immediately — Afonso Moreira found space on the left and finished coolly to level the score (30’).
Just three minutes later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia restored PSG’s lead with a trademark curling effort into the far corner after excellent pressing from Vitinha (33’).
The second half saw Ainsley Maitland-Niles bring Lyon back once again with a stunning lob over Lucas Chevalier (50’), capping a fine move orchestrated by Tyler Morton.
From there, Lyon dug in bravely but were gradually pinned back as PSG’s dominance in possession (72%) told. Luis Enrique threw on fresh legs, including Gonçalo Ramos and Marquinhos, and the breakthrough finally came deep into stoppage time. A pinpoint corner from Kang-In Lee was met at the near post by João Neves, whose header flew past Greif to make it 3–2 in the 96th minute.
There was still time for a final flashpoint — Ramos was booked for excessive celebration, and Lyon’s Tagliafico had earlier been sent off for a second yellow (90+3’), compounding a cruel end for Paulo Fonseca’s men.
For Les Parisiens, it puts the current Ligue 1 McDonald's in the driving seat at the top of the league before the international break.
Paris Saint-Germain have scored in 11 of their 12 games, only Strasbourg (12) have scored goals in more matches in the Ligue 1 this season.
