UEL: LOSC's comeback falls short, Nice lose in Vigo

After a strong start to the day on the part of Strasbourg and Lyon, Nice and Lille failed to follow suit for Ligue 1 McDonald's -- catch up on the day's last two matches in our recap.

LOSC Lille 3-4 PAOK

With Bruno Génésio lining up a rotated side, few expected Les Dogues to get much out of this match, but similarly few would have expected the hosts to be three goals down at the break despite the likes of Thomas Meunier, Olivier Giroud and Haakon Haraldsson all rested. 

Lille responded well after the break, with Benjamin André netting (57') before substitute Hamza Igamane scored a quickfire double (68, 78'), which made it 4-3. Lille pushed hard for an equalizer, and despite Matias Fernandez-Pardo hitting the post in added time and  André having a goal chalked off for offside, Lille got no closer, and slipped to 11th before taking on Red Star Belgrade in two weeks.

Celta Vigo 2-1 OGC Nice

Three Europa League matches, three 2-1 losses for Les Aiglons. OGC Nice played well away to Celta Vigo on Matchday Three, despite missing the likes of Dante, Moise Bombito and Youssouf Ndayishimiye. After conceding an early goal to Celta's Iago Aspas (2') Mohamed Ali-Cho scored his first goal of the season with sixteen minutes on the clock, as Nice tried tor draw themselves back into the match. They would come close to taking the lead seven minutes later, but Ali Abdi's effort was palmed clear by the hosts' 'keeper.

Despite showing plenty of enterprising play, Nice were quickly behind the eight ball as Jonathan Clauss was sent off just before the break, the third time that Les Aiglons would have to finish a match with ten men this season. Despite Nice being down a man, the match proved a spirited affair, as Celta hit the post just after the break, but the visitors were cruelly undone by an own goal from Kojo Oppong (74'). With 2-1 the final margin, Nice will now look to regroup before a tough run of Ligue 1 McDonald's fixtures against Rennes, LOSC and PSG before returning to European action against Freiburg in a fortnight.
