Despite semifinal defeat in a penalty shootout to Morocco, this has been an impressive U-20 World Cup for France. Ahead of their semifinal match against Colombia this weekend, we take a closer look at PSG's promising youngster, Noham Kamara in our latest "One to Watch"
A substitute at the start of this U20 World Cup in Chile, young PSG defender Noham Kamara stood out in the quarterfinal victory by Les Bleuets against Norway on Sunday night (1-2). To his credit, he made a precise and decisive pass to secure Saïmon Bouabré's opening goal. This presents an ideal opportunity to get to know the 18-year-old right-footed defender better.
Never called up to the French youth team before this U20 World Cup, Kamara started the competition on the bench. After playing around twenty minutes in the first match against South Africa (2-1), he started the following match against the USA (0-3) in midfield before coming off at halftime. Since then, he has played 100% of his available minutes. He first benefited from coach Bernard Diomède's switch to a three-man defense before taking Steven Baseya's place, in central defence alongside Elyaz Zidane.
For this U20 World Cup, Diomède has selected 21 players, the majority of whom were born in 2005. Noham Kamara was born on January 22, 2007, making him the fourth youngest player in the squad traveling to Chile. However, of this small group, Noham Kamara has played the most by far, with 369 minutes.

Originally from Seine-et-Marne and having played for Torcy, like Paul Pogba, Randal Kolo Muani, and Lucas Michal -- who also played at the U20 World Cup, Noham Kamara joined PSG late in life. It wasn't until June 2024, at the age of 17 and a half, that he arrived at PSG. It wasn't necessarily an obvious choice, since Paris FC was also in the running and offered him a longer-term contract. It's also worth noting that the Meaux native had tried out for the AS Monaco U14 youth academy but was not selected.
Noham Kamara has made two professional appearances. Last May, he played two league matches. On his professional debut, he played at left back in the second half of Strasbourg-PSG (2-1), a match just before the Champions League semifinal second leg between PSG and Arsenal. He then played 30 minutes as a right-back against Montpellier in Ligue 1 match (1-4). This season, he has yet to play with the first team, but he has been part of the squad four out of eight matches.
At the end of August, this central defender, who can also play defensive midfield, signed his first professional contract with PSG. This means he will be tied to his youth club until 2028. He isn't the only Parisian to have achieved this honor during the summer, as Quentin Ndjantou signed a professional contract a few weeks before Noham Kamara, following in the footsteps of Naoufel El Hannach (on loan to Montpellier) and Ibrahim Mbaye, who also turned professional in 2025.
