AFCON Roundup: Salisu scores for Ghana and more
The international break is well and truly underway, and we caught up with what the stars of Ligue 1 McDonald's got up to in Africa as qualification for the 2026 World Cup rolled on
Mohamed, Egypt finish first
Starting and playing 90 minutes, FC Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed helped Egypt clinch first place in Group A with a 3-0 win over Djibouti. While the striker failed to find the net, his holdup play was integral to the Pharaohs' success ahead of their final match against Guinea-Bissau.
Avom, Nagida star for Cameroon
Cameroon still have work to do if they're to top Group D, as they still Cape Verde by two points, but they're all but assured of coming second after a composed 2-0 win over Mauritius. Two young Ligue 1 players were involved from the off in Toulouse FC left back Aboubakar Nagida and FC Lorient's Arthur Avom (below), who controlled the match in midfield. Next up for the Indomitable Lions is a home match with Angola.
Five Star Ghana top Group I, Doumbia at the double
Needing a decisive win to seal their place in the World Cup, Ghana delivered, as AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu struck the first of five goals for the Black Stars in a win over Central African Republic. Gideon Mensah (Auxerre) and Elisha Owusu also featured in M´eknes.
While Mali have failed to qualify for the World Cup next year, that doesn't mean team with plenty of Ligue 1 representation didn't give its all in their penultimate match, winning away to Chad 2-0. Kamory Doumbia (Stade Brestois) scored both, Fodé Doucouré (Le Havre) played ninety minutes in midfield and Ousmane Camara (Angers) came off the bench.

Finally, in a friendly in Indonesia, RC Lens' Saud Abdulhamid came off the bench as the visitors earned a 3-2 win.
