The 5th matchday of Ligue 2 BKT delivered a flurry of decisive results at both ends of the table, with Red Star and Troyes continuing their early-season momentum, Saint-Étienne asserting their ambitions, and Guingamp finally finding success at home.
Red Star FC could not have wished for a better start in Pau. Hacène Benali scored in the very first minute, before Joseph Kalulu’s reckless challenge on Dylan Durivaux left the home side reduced to ten men almost immediately (2’). The visitors pressed their advantage, with Benali converting a penalty before half-time (45’+2) to put Gregory Poirier’s men in full control.
Pau’s nightmare evening worsened with Tom Pouilly’s dismissal (65’), and Damien Durand wrapped up the 3-0 scoreline late on (81’). This was Red Star’s third consecutive win, which briefly placed them top of the standings on goal difference.
Troyes matched Red Star’s margin of victory, defeating Nancy 3-0 at home. Tawfik Bentayeb (23) shone on the night, scoring twice — first from open play (21’), then from the penalty spot (49’). He missed the chance to complete his hat-trick with another penalty, but Martin Adeline sealed the scoreline with his third goal of the campaign.
With the win, Troyes maintained their strong start and ensured the top of the table remains tightly contested.
Red Star’s spell at the summit didn’t last long. On Saturday, Saint-Étienne’s draw at Clermont (1-1) was just enough to lift them into first place, level on points with Red Star but edging ahead thanks to goal difference. Les Verts’ solid unbeaten run underlines their intent to push for promotion after coming so close last season.
Rodez continued their positive start, beating Le Mans 1-0 thanks to Tairyk Arconte’s decisive strike (56’).
At the bottom, Boulogne-sur-Mer remain winless, suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Laval despite rallying after Ethan Clavreul’s first-half double.
Bastia managed only a 0-0 draw away to Amiens, keeping them stranded in the relegation zone.
Guingamp 1–0 Montpellier (Monday): Donatien Gomis’ first-half header gave EAG their first home win of the season. Despite Montpellier’s second-half pressure, Sylvain Ripoll’s men held firm, climbing into the top half of the table.
