From Marseille’s Rennes reunion to PSG’s title defence, here are the must-watch clashes as the 2025-26 Ligue 1 McDonald’s season kicks off.

Curtain-raiser: Stade Rennais vs Olympique de Marseille

An intriguing contest awaits at Roahzon Park for Ligue 1 McDonald's opening match of the season as Olympique de Marseille head into their second season under Roberto De Zerbi following a raft of Summer signings. "We've had very good preparation, with no injuries and some competitive friendly matches (three wins and three draws). Everything is going well, but we still have zero points," said the Italian during his pre-match press conference.

There will already be a reunion for former Marseille pair Quentin Merlin and Valentin Rongier on Friday evening. With a side managed by former OM defender Habib Beye - the opening match has a distinct Phocéen flavour to it. "I was moved when he left and I saw him with a Rennes shirt," Marseille captain Leonardo Balerdi said on Rongier during his pre-match press conference. "For me, OM is synonymous with him. I was with him for six years, so it feels strange - tomorrow there won't be any gifts for him, he knows that."
