Can anything stop this PSG side in 2025-2026?

Last Season

Is there anything that can stop this Paris Saint-Germain side under Luis Enrique? The 2024-2025 season saw Les Parisiens finally lift the UEFA Champions League, swept the Ligue 1 McDonald's title, and the Coupe de France as well as the Trophée des Champions - completing a quadruple for the ages. In Enrique's second season, the side from the French capital found greater cohesion, fluidity, and tactical balance under the Spaniard, with Ousmane Dembélé stepping up to lead the attack, netting 35 goals and 12 assists across competitions. However, the season ended on a less triumphant note, with PSG falling 3-0 to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final.

The Coach: Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique remains the architect of PSG’s current success, blending high-intensity pressing with technical finesse and tactical flexibility. But winning isn't new for the former Barcelona man, where he clinched a historic treble in 2015—winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League. His challenge this season is to keep his squad motivated and prevent complacency, adjusting where necessary. The FIFA Club World Cup defeat exposed vulnerabilities, especially in defensive concentration and squad rotation, which Enrique must address. Yet it doesn't change the fact that his squad is one that has already been moulded in his image, and is raring to go again this season.

Key arrivals

PSG have made targeted moves to strengthen squad depth and address key areas. The signing of Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth brings Premier League experience to the heart of defense, following the departure of Milan Skriniar. PSG have also signed Lille and France U21 goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who is expected to be number one next season at the club.

Key Departures

Les Parisiens are keeping much of the same squad as the previous season - but there have been several departures nonetheless. Defender Milan Skriniar has moved on to Turkish club Fenerbahçe, whilst a move away from the club for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma may also be on the cards before the end of the transfer window, after the signing of Lucas Chevalier.

Remember When...

PSG won their first Ligue 1 McDonald's title back in the 1993-1994 season under Brazilian coach Artur Jorge - Les Parisiens managed to edge FC Nantes to claim the Championship. George Weah was the club's top scorer with 16 goals whilst David Ginola also famously starred in the side.

Cult Hero: Ronaldhino

While his dazzling career is often linked with Barcelona and Brazil, Ronaldinho's European adventure began in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain. Though his time in France lasted only two seasons (2001-2003), it was a period filled with breathtaking skill and a glimpse into the genius that would later dominate world football.
