After a disappointing defeat to Mexico last week, Canada rebounded with a big 2-1 away win over the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League third-place match last night. As he had on Thursday, head coach Jesse Marsch picked all four Ligue 1 McDonald's players on his roster for the starting XI. Jonathan David (LOSC Lille) was deployed as a playmaker, while Ismaël Koné (Stade Rennais) started in central midfield. In defence, Moïse Bombito (OGC Nice) and Derek Cornelius (Olympique de Marseille) lined up centrally. For the US, Mark McKenzie (Toulouse FC) played 90 minutes in defence, while Tanner Tessmann (Olympique Lyonnais) came off the bench with 20 minutes to play.
Canada took the lead in the first half, just before the half hour, but the United States responded to level the match going into the break. Just before the hour, though, David would prove decisive, as he done all season for Les Dogues. Taking the ball on the edge of the area, he shifted it on to his right foot, and struck a clever shot that left the 'keeper no chance, securing third place for Canada with a 2-1 win. Next up for both nations are friendlies in June.

Argentina, who have had a strong start to 2026 World Cup Qualifying, were faced with a tough opponent on Friday night in the form of Uruguay. Manager Lionel Scaloni selected a pair of Olympique Lyonnais stars in Nicolás Tagliafico and Thiago Almada in his eleven, playing them at left back and left wing respectively, while Léonardo Balerdi (Olympique de Marseille) came off the bench in Montevideo. The choice of Almada proved decisive as he took the ball from Julián ´Álvarez and found the top corner midway through the second half, scoring the game's only goal in a result that moves the defending champions six points clear at the top of the qualification table ahead of tomorrow's match against Brazil.
Friday's other match saw Ecuador, with Willian Pacho (Paris Saint-Germain) in defence, notch a home win over Venezuela, for whom Cristián Casseres (Toulouse FC) played 90 minutes. The result leaves Venezuela a point below the playoff spot, while Ecuador are in second place.
