In-form Emegha powers Racing

In an exciting encounter in Toulouse, Liam Rosenior's Racing Club de Strasbourg got the better of the hosts, winning their fourth straight match in all competitions thanks to another star turn from Emanuel Emegha. After a goal and an assist in last weekend's win against Auxerre, the Dutchman had a first-half double to move on to six goals on the season. The first was the result of a quick reaction after a mistake from Guillaume Restes, pouncing on a miscue from the teenage 'keeper to score in the first quarter of an hour.

Ten minutes later, he did it again, neatly finishing off a counterattack by slotting home a low cross from Habib Diarra. Toulouse were hardly daunted by going two goals down, though, and pushed hard to get back in to the match, pulling back a goal thanks to a deflection off Ismaël Doukouré. Moments later, Emegha had the ball in the net, but the flag was up, denying the lanky striker a hat trick. In the second half, the match remained intense, but big chances for either side were lacking save a goal by Franck Magri being flagged offside and 2-1 was the final score, a result which lifts Racing into ninth place, just a point behind their opponents on the day.

Angers draw in Montpellier

There were fewer goals in Montpellier, where the stakes were much higher in a match that had massive implications in the battle to avoid the drop. The hosts had played well but were undone by an unlucky own goal in stoppage time in Lyon last weekend, while Angers were looking to win a third straight match in all competitions, pulling further from the relegation scrap in the process.

That was indeed was Le SCO managed to do, getting a double from Esteban Lepaul to win 3-1, with La Paillade finishing with nine men as both Jordan Ferri and Kiki Kouyaté were sent off. Téji Savanier had managed to level the match from the penalty spot on the hour after Lepaul had struck on the half hour. The forward got his double after a fine ball in from Himad Abdelli, before Zinedine Ferhat scored a third in added time, allowing the Bretons to seal the result and move up to 13th, while the hosts stay bottom.
