Multiplex Recap: Brest, Montpellier Secure Wins; Angers-Nantes Draw

There were lots of goals in Ligue 1's multiplex slot on Sunday with Stade Brestois and Montpellier Hérault SC both securing impressive wins while Angers SCO and FC Nantes battled to a 1-1 draw.

Did you miss any of the action? Here's the recap:

Angers 1-1 Nantes

Les Canaris traveled to the Stade Raymond Kopa for a showdown with Angers. Despite being the away side, Nantes were the favorite, considering their impressive start to the season, having only lost one match in their four games heading into Sunday's contest.

Angers are off to a slow start after coming up from Ligue 2, losing their first three matches and drawing last weekend against RC Strasbourg. The away side would make life difficult for Angers as Moses Simon provided the assist on the goal from Johann Lepenant in the 18th minute.

Nantes were unable to hold onto the lead, and Angers responded minutes later. After a VAR review, the home side was awarded a penalty kick chance, and Himad Abdelli converted the shot to level the scoring 1-1. All the scoring action would occur in the first half with the contest finishing in a draw.

Montpellier 3-2 AJ Auxerre

It was a back-and-forth match at the Stade de la Mosson with Hamed Traorè opening the scoring in the 18th minute for the away side. Auxerre have struggled to start this 2024-25 Ligue 1 season, so it was an excellent start to the contest.

Auxerre went into halftime with their 1-0 lead, but Montpellier would find their scoring boots in the second half. Akor Adams leveled the match at 1-1 in the 65th minute, and Modibo Sagnan gave Montpellier the advantage in the 71st minute. It was a quick turnaround for the home side to take a 2-1 lead, but the scoring didn't stop there.

One minute later, Ado Onaiwu leveled the scoring 2-2 with a goal in the 72nd minute, and the chaotic moments in the match didn't stop there. Three minutes after Onaiwu tied the contest, Adams scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute as Montpellier regained the lead and won the game 3-2.

Brest 2-0 Toulouse FC

Following a historic UEFA Champions League win in the middle of the week, Brest secured a 2-0 win over Toulouse at the Stade Francis Le Blé. Mama Baldé scored his first goal in a Brest jersey to open the scoring for the home side in the 21st minute as Brest took a 1-0 lead.

Éric Roy and his team took a 1-0 lead into halftime and it was a tightly contested second half, but Les Pirates would add the insurance goal in stoppage time thanks to a goal from Romain Faivre.

Brest recorded a clean sheet on defense and has won three of its last four matches across all competitions. After losing its first two matches to start the 2024-25 season, Brest is beginning to find its footing to climb up the Ligue 1 table.
