Preview: OM Look to Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five Games vs. OL

On Sunday night, Olympique de Marseille will be traveling to Groupama Stadium for a crucial clash against Olympique Lyonnais.

Marseille are off to a great start in this 2024-25 season as they're currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak. Roberto De Zerbi and his team have been clicking in the attack, recording 12 total goals in their first four matches.

So far this season, Mason Greenwood leads the squad with five goals while Luis Henrique has five goal contributions (three goals and two assists) to fuel the OM offense.

Ahead of the matchup, De Zerbi addressed the press and mentioned that playing away against Lyon is exactly the kind of challenge he wants for his team.

"OL is a strong team, not just because of their name but also because they have key players like Lacazette. They’re a direct rival of OM and definitely a team to respect. This matchup is one of the highlights of the league. We want to show that we can perform well. Brest won in the Champions League yesterday, and we beat them by five goals on their pitch."

"If we want to compete in this league, we need to bring that kind of intensity to every match. It’s one thing to play well at home, but we also need to show character and seriousness when we’re away—that’s how we can really prove ourselves. We need to step up."

Lyon is off to a slow start this season, with just one win in four matches, plus a draw and two losses. Gift Orban has been one of the bright spots for Les Gones with the 22-year-old recording two goals in two games during this campaign.

Despite the concerning start, manager Pierre Sage notes that the squad has made adjustments as they look to secure a home win and climb up the Ligue 1 table.

"The first thing that's been important is that we've played like a team. We've made some changes between the Strasbourg and Lens games, particularly in terms of managing our weak moments and the length of the match. It remains to be seen whether or not these changes have taken effect over the long term."

"We're making positive progress and we're controlling the whole match better. What's interesting is that every match we have a date with ourselves, and every match we want to be a better version of ourselves."

Lyon would love to secure a win at home to build some positive momentum heading into their opening match of the UEFA Europa League against Olympiacos this upcoming Thursday.
