Shortly after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 for the shores of Spain in his playing career, Kylian Mbappé has now officially become the new majority shareholder of Ligue 2 BKT side Stade Malherbe de Caen, becoming one of the youngest club owners in European football…

France captain Kylian Mbappé has now officially taken over as majority shareholder of Ligue 2 BKT side Stade Malherbe de Caen at the age of 25, through his own investment fund Coalition Capital.

Whilst the former Paris Saint-Germain striker has chosen to continue his playing career in Spain, the prolific Ligue 1 goal scorer has decided to take the plunge into the boardroom with his first significant club investment. Mbappé will co-own the club through his investment fund Coalition Capital with minority shareholder Pierre-Antoine Capton of PAC invest.

In fact, Mbappé almost joined Caen in 2012 before opting for AS Monaco's prestigious training academy. Les Vikings finished 6th last season in Ligue 2, just missing out on the play-offs by one point to Paris FC. The Normandy-based side will coincidently face Les Parisiens in their opening match of the 2024-2025 Ligue 2 season in August.

Joining Mbappé at Caen will be the head of his current image company and former BeIN Sports director of strategy and investments Ziad Hammoud. "As the main investor in this project, we are very excited to continue the development of Stade Malherbe Caen alongside PAC Invest. Our shared vision with the club, of sporting excellence and community engagement, is at the heart of our approach. We are determined to create an environment where young talents can thrive and where the club can strongly and ambitiously uphold its identity."
